U-PARK Visitor Parking

University of Alberta Parking Services is excited to announce the launch of the new campus-wide "Pay by Plate" parking technology. New dispensers are being installed in all parking lot locations, including underground lots, surface lots, carparks and metered lots on North Campus, South Campus and Campus Saint-Jean to replace the current "Pay & Display" system.

What will change?

Short-term parking is getting easier! You will no longer be required to return to your vehicle to display your hourly/daily parking permit (receipt) on your dash. Since you enter your license plate number at the pay station, our integrated parking system will communicate that information to our enforcement officers, who will know that your parking has been paid for the amount of time you entered at the time of purchase.

Please remember to note your license plate number before you leave your vehicle. If you don’t already have it memorized, we recommend that you make note of it in your phone, snap a photo, or write it down and keep it in your wallet.

How does it work?

The new system is simple. You will park your vehicle and then visit the nearest dispenser to enter your license plate number, select the amount of time you require, pay with credit card, coins or department coupon code, and then be on your way. There is no need to return to your vehicle. U-PARK dispenser locations can be found on this map:

If you choose to pay by credit card and enter your mobile phone number at the dispenser when you make your parking purchase, you can opt in to receive a parking expiry reminder, with the option to purchase additional parking time via text message. This is a completely optional feature that provides flexibility and eliminates the need to return to a dispenser to add time to your purchase. If you choose to extend-by-phone, you must do so before the current permit expires or it will not be valid.

Please note: you will receive a text message a few minutes before each time period is about to expire until the rate on the machine changes to a different setting (e.g. from day to evening).

Looking Ahead

This new system will allow Parking Services to pursue additional technologies to assist with the high demand of parking on campus. Watch for the launch of a mobile phone app that will enable you to complete your parking purchase and top-ups from your phone.
